Why do MLB teams have to purchase a player’s contract from the minor leagues?
My thinking is that the team already has a contract with that player, so in the MLB Daily transactions, why do they list the team as purchasing the contract. Is the team paying themselve’s for the contract or is this a price the player receives for being called up to the show?
Because the player is on the clubs minor league roster. So for him to be called up they have to "purchase the contract". The rule 5 player is a player who is made available for other teams to take. But if they take them the MUST stay in the major leagues that year. If they get sent down, the player will go back to the 1st team.
Good question I put a star next to your question. I have no idea but I don’t understand either. I also don’t understand a rule 5 player.
Nope, the minor league team PAYS the players contract, so if he gets sent up to the MLB it woul make sense that the new club pays for him being there…
