Should some MLB games to be scheduled and played in cities where there is no MLB teams?
Like Dodgers play Rockies in El Paso, TX.
Yankees play Blue Jays in Vancouver, BC…..
Just to benefit those fans who live in the cities without any MLB teams….
Will it work?
If your city has a baseball stadium that can seat 40,000+ (needs to be big enough to be worth it), then maybe…
It probably wouldn’t happen too often for the teams that get plenty of revenue at home, but if, for example, the Marlins could play a home game somewhere else, get the $$ like normal, and get 40,000 people worth of revenue instead of 5,000, they’d probably do it.
Don’t bet on the Yankees voluntarily giving up home games in the near future, though
no. why would someone want to go to canada to see the yankees play. thats why you should do the traveling.
Sure why not. Play in a spring training stadium.
No
Stupid idea.
If your city does not have a team sucks 4 u
yes yes yes
I wish they would play in Pittsburgh!!!!
Haven’t seen a MLB home team in 16 freakin years.
It’s been happening already — the Rays played three games in Orlando in both 2007 and this season. The Expos played over 20 games a season in San Juan, Puerto Rico, in 2003-04. Tokyo has hosted games three times already. There have been games in Mexico (1996, ‘99) and Hawaii (1997) recently.
And the idea has been floated to have the Marlins do a roadshow — San Antonio, Las Vegas, Portland — as a way of showcasing them as a possible relo team (though this hasn’t yet happened).
Biggest challenge is finding a decent facility. It pretty much requires an AAA-level ballpark, and there’s not many of those around.
Don’t think you’d get enough fan support. MLB only cares about the $$$$. If they don’t see the dollar signs, they won’t do it. But it is an interesting idea.
It might. Lots of sports lovers out there. Revenue for the cities and the ball franchises could increase. Nice idea, if you can obtain backing.
Interesting thought but it’ll never happen. Playing a major league game in a minor league stadium would cost the owners money and as we know all too well by now, it’s money that matters.
Other than emptying their wallets the owners could care less about the fans.
Nice thought… but try and find owners (stadium or team) willing to give up home-game revenue. Probably won’t be too keen on the idea.
It’s heartbreaking to think about, but the game of baseball (or most other sports for that matter) is not about the fans any more. It’s all about the market.
The idea sounds interesting but there are some obstacles. You need to find a suitable stadium that seats at least 40,000 to make it profitable. there are not that many around. Most teams would not want to give up any home dates for this. Those that draw large crowds all the time won;t want to lose the revenue from a home date.
