The New York Mets have actually moved to the West coast like every other NY NL team and play in Sacramento now and the Yankees didn't want to feel left out so they split their home games between New York and San Jose, CA. There is definitely a large enough population base to support both teams. Both the White Sox and Cubs do play in Chicago. You have obviously never been to Chicago, or you would not be referring to it as "very small". In reality, it is quite large. The Mets and Yankees also both play in their home city of New York City. They have a big rivalry, it's like a cross-town matchup that consists of six games, three of the games are played at Wrigley Field, the other three games are played at U.S. Cellular.
