Changing baseball - good or bad?
What do you think of the idea of having a separate umpire upstairs at any given baseball game who reviews every play on the fly. If a call is wrong it could immediately be fixed, and without the waiting period of all the on-field umpires getting together to discuss and review. Do you agree or no?
Secondly,
I asked a question earlier and the overall opinion seems to be that changing to colored uniforms instead of the traditional grey uniforms will have no effect on popularity of the sport.
Considering how successful Boise State was in creating a large fanbase through something as superficial as color, and how teams who modify their emblem not only generally do better, but increase revenue, it seems like a logical choice.
my question now is would you protest colored uniforms if it did happen?
According to ESPNs study 20% of close calls are made wrong.
I eat pancakes sometimes, do you?
Can you make things a little clearer? Por favor!
2nd: Like I said, I couldn’t care less if they came out wearing thongs and push-ups, as long as they play the game.
The first idea:
Sounds like a great idea. The umpires need to get the calls right.
Second idea:
How would I protest? I wouldn’t. I could care less what the players look like. I answered your last question by saying that more colors on the uniforms could get little kids interested in baseball. That’s probably true. If a 3 year old kid sees players with gray uniforms, they’ll probably find it boring.
I belive that the umps should never alter apperance at all (ruin baseball). But instant replay is very controversial because a lot of bad calls are whagt looses games for team for instance the giants early in the season,a fair ball called foul that would’ve won them the game. And like gallaraga. Its hare to see baseball be changed because I’m in high school and a die hard 100 percent baseball fan and player.
first idea: yes they need this in baseball
second: just keep it the same
no i wouldn’t but why change they’ve had the same uniforms for about ever
Agree with the first idea, but with a twist. Have 3 umpires upstairs each looking at his own video and vote (press a button) to agree or disagree with a call. The result would be fast and the process reduces the chance of team favoritism.
I also agree with the second question - I’ve even asked the same question about my team’s uniform only ( it is as drab as an army fatigue). I’m sure it can be made more colorful without looking outlandish or flambuoyant.
You clearly have a problem with baseball. If you don’t like the way it is now, then don’t watch it. Just don’t try to change it because it’s fine. Sometimes we have to deal with bad calls. which don’t happen that often. Baseball’s not about logic. And there are already plenty of colored uniforms for day games.
The idea that the fix would be immediate is patently incorrect. There has to be some sort of lag while play is stopped, the extra official reviews the play and then makes the call or not. That’s hardly immediate. Since it’s then obvious you can’t do this for every pitch you need to specifically define the parameters when the extra official would get involved.
I watch NASCAR so obviously I don’t care if they come out with uniforms with sponsors logos all over them. I’m watching the game, not the fashions…
